Just finished a trip where we went to Alamogordo for 4 days then to Canyon, Tx, Eufala, Ok and back home. Lots of weird weather and high winds this round.

We had driven to Lincoln and were headed back to Alamogordo. So we took a route one of the locals suggested. Saw some elk and a good bit of snow on the mountain tops. Also saw 3 elk that had been run over. Went up to the Mountain of The Gods casino but just to see the scenery. Pretty good size lake up there too. Stopped in Riudoso at K-Bob’s Steakhouse for dinner.

A lot different scenery than around here. We went to the White Sand NP and up to Cloudcroft. Very cool up on top of that mountain. They still had snow in the shady areas. Had a sand storm come through while we were in Alamogordo with winds up to 50 mph so we used the day for washing clothes and getting ready to move on to Amarillo for a couple of days. Hit Cadillac Ranch, Big Texan Steak Ranch and Palo Duro Canyon while we were there.

We were at Amarillo/Canyon early March. Palo Duro Canyon is a real surprise in the panhandle isn't it? Cadillac Ranch is interesting and apparently an international bucket list spot. We passed on Big Texan but went to a local longhorn ranch, amazing.

White Sands area is on the list.

The food was good and it is a really big place at Big Texan. We watched 2 people trying to eat the 72 oz. sirloin in 60 minutes but left before they finished. Just a really good casual atmosphere. Friendly folks. Got serenaded by 2 older guys playing a guitar and a fiddle. They were very good.
A little preview of White Sands
