I hope no one is planning on RV'ing through Baltimore anytime in the near future.

Breaking news from 0127 this morning. Container ship took out the bridge.




Wow... not really any words to describe that, hopefully it is just a crazy accident.

saw that story as soon as I started reading email this morning.
That is one of those things in life that just makes you think, wow, how can this happen.

reality is it has happened quite a few times

just saw this video a few minutes ago. its better than what was available this morning... gives a good idea how fast the ship was moving when it lost power..

Yea, about 7-10 knots from what I understand. Which is still a massive amount of energy to stop.

yeah, lose power, lose steering and control.. 1 thing for sure is a ship doesn't steer or brake like a car and if you don't have power it is going to lose control.

there were two lake freighters ran aground near Detroit not that long ago, same story... lost power just didn't hit anything.
I remember way back ship took out the Tampa Bridge in Florida.. killed a bunch of people
and that ship that got itself stuck in the Suez Canal a few years ago?
