A warning to all 5th wheel owners - don't just look at the latch bar pin, really see it

When you hook up to your 5th wheel, you must see that the latch pin is fully engaged. I get into the back of the truck to hook up the break-away and look directly at the latch bar pin. I did my normal routine, but didn't actually SEE the latch bar pin. It was dark, I was distracted, blah...

How hard was the contact between the two?

thats in my backyard, so it bounced off at crawl speed.. still dinged up what was an otherwise perfect truck bed.. story of my life is I never owned anything that stayed perfect.. I do use things.. sometimes hard.. and sometimes I run over stuff, back into stuff or otherwise trash perfectly good stuff thru inherent carelessness.

tailgate that came on my current truck from the factory is in a dumpster in White Sulfur Springs Montana.. simply because I didn't bother opening it and pulled out hard from underneath my fifth wheel trailer..

always wanted one of those special fifth wheel tailgates, but didn't want to pay for one... but the choice was made after the previous episode and now I own one..
