Upheaval Dome in Canyonlands NP - not the main attraction, but very interesting

There is an upheaval dome in the northern area of Canyonlands NP, which sticks out like a belly button on Google maps satellite view. I wouldn't have known it was there had I not been surveying the park from my PC before we actually went there. There was much debate for decades on how the dome was formed. Recently a scientist found the required evidence to show it was a meteor impact that weakened the rock above the layers that have now squirted out of the dome. It's not as grand as Dead Horse Point, but viewing the twisted and tortured layers in their bright colors is unique and worth the stop.
