Slide drive shear pin fixed - New Horizons 5th wheel

He's looking right at you Mr. CTBob with your blingy solar system with all the controls and data screens and whatnot.
I wasn't, but now that you mention it... LOL. at least that's Bobs own private drug deal and not an abortion the manufacturers decided was a good idea..

I've seen some stuff on RV's and just wondered why? I seen a guy at the campground using his remote controlled awning and showing it to other people and just wondered why someone thought that was a good idea? At least you can't lose a switch that is drilled to the wall. :)

maybe for me I value simpler stuff without a reliance on computer chips, touch screens and wires
especially where there was no need for them.
But the gizmos are cool, mysterious, and wonderfully complex :ROFLMAO:

yeah, especially when they fail to function at the most inopportune time.
You have people out there using RV's who can't even change a flat tire
and now they install something on them that only a factory trained technician with
special tools can repair?

That's the kind of forward thinking the Germans employ.
Send it back to the factory for warranty and repair. LOL.

my RV has self leveling which I suppose might be easier than the old way of running some wood planks under the tires
which was the old method manual way to do level an RV...
Self Leveling system would cut out in use after I first bought it.
Come to find out the boneheads who built the RV connected the system
to a automatic reset circuit breaker with too low of an amperage rating.

I've leveled both ways and I vastly prefer to push a button and get busy doing other things to hook-up while it's leveling.

oh yeah, that stuff does spoil a person.. like I said it is easier. :)

I don't want to go back to the old mechanical style awning either, as little as I use the thing
when the first time I saw someone deploying a awning with a remote control
my first thought was how much does it cost when you lose the remote.. and does it have a backup switch in case the remote fails etc.

Basically I saw that remote control as a solution to a non existent problem.
that is the type of bling I am referencing.

I'm sure the broken shear pin was caused by the slide being out of time due to the shear pin elongating the hole in the torque tube, causing the slides to bind. The reamed hole and the larger bolt will fix the timing issue. There is a second shear pin on the other end of the torque tube that is now the weakest link. I'd prefer that one shear as it's simple to change.
Thanks for the explanation Wayne. I just wanted to make sure that you didn’t regret the decision. Hopefully your solution will make things easier.

Just my $0.02

Our trailer is self leveling……I level it myself. Bunch of tin can campers around here can’t use a level. 🫣. Hate to admit I use a drill motor to run the jacks down but we all have our vices.

Seriously everyone has a different comfort level with new tech and it isn’t productive to belittle people who like more tech than we do. My BIL can apparently run his leveling and slides from his phone and I’m happy he likes it. I kinda like the tv remote but don’t need to run the thermostat from my phone.

But how would a manufacturer show added value?

Ag machinery is the same way. John Deere's largest combine is now $1,000,000 and is bristling with so much technology you can't believe it. That's fine for those that want the technology, but the problem is you can't buy a combine or tractor that isn't full of technology. I'll bet you 75% of the whiz-bang features never get used.

yep.. can you imagine leaving your crop to rot in the field because your hi tech combine wont run? the AG industry is also involved in a running lawsuit about right to repair rules as JD locked individuals and the aftermarket out of working on the stuff. It's getting to be a big problem for the repair industry. I was actually glad I retired when I did as with our stuff it was getting to the point I had a hard time keeping up with all the different crap we owned. I used to have 2 drawers on a file cabinet full of different diagnostic connectors for all the different crap we had.. and some of them look the same as somebody else's but are pinned differently.. It would drive a person nuts if they needed to repair something..
so many different programs on a bunch of laptops, plus the cables and connection materials as well as differences in nomenclature as well as licensing agreements and fees....

Just going by memory we had Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link ( DDDL) , Cummins Insite, Allison old and Allison New ( totally different) Thermo King Intelligaire 2 and 3 ( different again) , Voith, Vansco Mulitplex, Dinex Multiplex ( several different programs depending on age or type of equipment) Hubner , HymerLeichtmetalbau, I forget the rest.. blah blah blah..
After awhile when you are supposed to be a jack of all trades but they get all this different stuff it just wears a person out.. Good thing with automtoive is the stuff is mostly designed by one manufacturer and they are confined to using the OBD2 protocol but special equipment and HD trucks and such there is no such rule..
