Replacing GPI EZ-8RV pump gears

I had posted previously that I picked up a transfer tank off of FB Marketplace.

The pump is 10 years old and worked, but it sounded like it was grinding rocks and ran slowly. After googling around I learned that the older pump gears swell over time which causes the gears to rub on the pump housing. The rubbing causes the gears to bind and drag the 12v motor speed down and current up, which often causes blow fuses and shortened motor life.

I found a gear replacement kit from GPI on Amazon and purchased it for $40. A new pump is about $250, so $40 for a gear kit was well worth the price. The whole replacement process is simple and takes about 10 minutes.

With the new gears, the pump runs considerably faster, pumps faster, and is quieter.
