I made a reservation last July for one of the nights on our return trip. Booked full hookup, paid full price. Got an email the other day 'You've been moved to water/electric only, no full hookup sites available'

Go look at their pricing page, sure enough, they've gone up $10 since last year. I don't know if they're going to charge me the extra $2 or not, but you can bet your ass that I'm going to look for someplace else to stay. I don't appreciate people playing games.

Thanks to archive.org the rates as they were the time I booked in July 2024.

I'm all for the benefit of the doubt.....but you had a year. I booked July 21st 2024.

Also, not a 'discount rate'. $42 is now their standard rate for a W/E site.

In my book, this is pretty much a wishy washy 'non answer'.

To be clear, had they emailed me and said 'we screwed up, is a W/E ok with you?' I would have been more than happy to work with them. They didn't, they simply sent me a new invoice with the change.

I wasn't near my phone when the call came in, but the site manager left me a very detailed voicemail that I might upload at some point.

Link to the voicemail

Basically, pipeline workers took my site and the rules that apply to them are different than the rules that apply to the people that book in advance. They can stay however long they want. As long as they're on the site, then it is theirs as long as they are paying the bill.

They also don't charge your card when you book. I verified that via my statements. I guess that's something. They probably learned that lesson the hard way after refunding a bunch of people.

So, I adjusted my Google review to acknowledge that it wasn't all about the money in the first place....well, at least not my money. It is all about getting that sweet sweet pipeline cash.

My recommendation is thus: If you're stopping in for a last minute site to spend the night, you're probably ok. If you book in advance, you might get bumped by a contractor.

Either way, I cancelled my reservation and will stay at a spot down the road.

Bob, for the most part we never reserve anything ahead of time.. for instance if I think I am going to be 300 miles away tomorrow I pick a spot 300 miles away on the map and OL uses whatever Apps she has for finding campgrounds in that area.. that is how we do it.

she does most of that stuff.. but I also look on Campendium and I Overlander.. but I leave it to her to do the admin work..one day at a time.

because there is always Walmart. :)

Nope, can't do it, gotta have it taken care of ahead of time.

That was the original plan, but she who must be obeyed made the declaration that if we were going to do these longer trips, she wasn't sleeping in a parking lot.

I'm sure if push came to shove and we absolutely had to, she'd do it, but I'm not testing that this trip.

Bob,
I figured you could not operate that way but it was worth throwing it out there. :)

let me guess, you have an itinerary, schedule etc of where you will buy fuel, where you will eat
what attractions you will attend, where you will stay.. on a day to day basis.

are you planning on using the Sandhill route thru NE to get to Custer area?

Gas stations - Yes, but that was only because of having the Ranger and a small tank. Gas stations get scarce up north. We'll probably still keep to that plan even though we don't necessarily need the gas, just because it was stopping every 2 hours or so. One of us (and dog) usually needs some kind of break in that amount of time.

Attractions - Yes and no. Once we get to Custer the day-to-day is pretty open

Eating - Just a few, otherwise wide open

From Custer to St. Louis we're going that way, on the way up we're just going across I90. Mainly because we're making some stops in Iowa.

I have driven past that dive at least 50 times. We were pulling the trailer one time and were so desperate we almost stayed there, but chose to stay on the railroad tracks instead. It worked out much better. Friends don't let friends stay there. I'll beg you publicly not to stay there. Is that enough to convince you?

See if you can get a spot in George Clayton Hall County Park, Grand Island. We've stayed there a couple times and it's top notch.

Already rebooked somewhere else. They can pound sand. That's just not how you conduct business. When the pipeline/contractor business dries up, they'll be left with their spotty reputation.

It didn't take the pipeline workers to siphon their reputation off.

sucks you planned so far in advance and they bumped you but it isn't worth wasting your energy complaining.
I don't know if anyone reads google reviews.

like most of those BFE non attraction type RV parks they probably cater to the living the RV Life crowd
who smoke meth and party
more than one night stand RVers in hi end rigs.

I look through them when I'm evaluating a business. Besides, I have to do something at 3am when I'm all done with paperwork here at the facility. Helps keep me awake.

I've looked at google reviews before and thought that for every two people saying it was Ok there were two that complained.
might make you feel better but I figure its just a waste of time, then again, if it gives you something to do while at work, have at it..

To bring closure to this. We ended up staying the next exit down at the Double Nickel Campground. What a fantastic stay. Well kept, nice people, decent amenities. And a storm shelter!!

We even relaxed in the pool for a while.
