More quality Grand Design construction - fixed

I've known about this problem for a while just didn't get to it. This trip it almost failed so time to fix it. This is the drawer in the bathroom vanity over the water heater. Typical el cheapo slides as expected but the method of attaching the back ends of the slides just makes you shake your head. A 1x 2" piece of pine was stapled to the 1x1 that holds up the countertop. (I put the screws in to get home.) A strip of 1/2" plywood was attached with 1 screw to make a tee that the back ends of the slides were screwed to. Photo 2 of the vertical piece after I'd removed the slides and the setup on the bench. The slides fell apart when I took the drawer out. Replaced with full extension soft close slides attached to 3/4" plywood that was screwed/glued to the paneling.

Realize this trailer is a 2017 so this was when GD had the better than average rep and Covid can't be blamed.

yep. all the brands have fanboys.. who will never admit that their brand is really a rolling pile of $hidt..
best thing ever happened to my GD was a forest fire.

then again, I'm fixing stuff on my 2017 Heartland Bighorn that was not only hastily assembled but totally inadequate
design in the first place.. always seems to be something or another.
who would think using staples to hold something together would not hold up over time.?
it seems to be part of living the RV dream.

if any of us had any financial sense we would not do this for a hobby. :)

It's been said before, if I couldn't DIY fix this stuff I wouldn't be doing this. Can't imagine trying to get this stuff fixed at a dealer. As far as the cost of the trip, I penciled out the cost of this last 22 day trip in the trailer and if we would stay in motels and RVing is a lot less. And traveling with dogs is a bigger hassle staying in motels. Already planning the next trip to Sequoia National Forest in a couple of months.

Plus if you get bedbugs your costs are extremely higher. Main reason I camp, killed bugs for too many years. Hotels, 5-star or mom and pops all have them. Nope.

I agree. I know the butt that’s been in my bed was clean. It’s disgusting how filthy some people are nowadays.

We had to stay in several hotels when we made our plane trip to Canada last year. Was itching all over until I got so tired I just said whatever. I’ll decontaminate when we get home.

speaking of RV build quality, had to put some screws in the cover for the cord reel today and fix the bottom of the drawer
in the kitchen , it was falling out. That is the first thing that shook loose on the trip.

my Alaska trip a couple years ago was when I really found out where the loose stuff was, when the RV was new to me.
