Lake McDonald - Glacier National Park

If only I had taken more pictures!

Lake McDonald is the largest lake in Glacier NP and is situated on the east side of the park along Going-to-the-Sun Road. The lake is about 10 miles long and a mile wide with the deepest depth of 500'.

We stopped at one of the many pull-offs for a walk on the shore and to take some pictures. This was the first time we were close to the lake and were very surprised at how clear the lake is and at the bottom which is completely covered with multi-colored worn-round stones about the size of a soft ball.

There were lots of people boating and kayaking, enjoying the warm summer sun. When we go back we will rent a kayak for sure and paddle the shoreline. If we get lucky we'll see a bear or moose!

Stunning Photo Globe

I wish we had taken more pictures, but you get the idea.

I think we could take chairs to the water's edge and sit for hours. The scenery is simply spectacular.
