Fines for dragging safety chains

I've often wondered if it hurts anything or if you could be fined for letting a safety chain drag on the roadway. The answer is YES you can be fined for dragging a safety chain. Dragging a chain is a fire hazard and in many states you can be fined.

I'll be more careful to make sure the chains won't touch the roadway. I like to let them hang pretty loose so the Propride can pivot without catching on a chain.

Having just returned from the high desert with many hazy days due to all the wildfires, apparently it is extremely common for law enforcement to be out and about looking for exactly what you describe. Dragging chains can and do spark many wildfires each year and in the super dry west, it is a big problem in the summer!

I will make darn sure they aren't even close to the road.
