Bug Deflectors

I posted this question also on Bitog. But do bug deflectors protect your hood and windshield?

Any down sides?

Thinking about this one for my truck.

I believe they protect the front edge of your hood from rocks and keep many bug from hitting your windshield. Watch the bugs that are a foot above your hood, most of the lighter ones get pushed up by the pressure wave and don't hit your windshield. However, they sure do hit the front of your 5th wheel trailer!
