Arizona raises campground rates, boy howdy!

I think my wife has come around to part of my way of thinking on the RV. It's all our 'stuff'. Yea, you have to take care of it when you get home, but when you're traveling you know exactly where you'll be sleeping/crapping/showering. There's no surprises lurking for you behind a hotel room door, and no disgusting bathrooms for her.

Plus, we really do enjoy traveling with doggo. Never thought I would, but she's fun to watch in new environments.
exactly, you sleep in your own bed... get to cook your own food instead of living on french fries and coming home 20 pounds heavier.. can change your mind where you are going etc... the advantages of RVing are in that area.

but monetarily, even though most of us don't get that much use out of the RV we pay for it year round.. :)

right now we are using our RV ... our friend from NC is staying with us for a week in our spare bedroom on wheels..

My Aunt n Uncle live in a one room former girl scout lodge, never had kids, so never needed any spare rooms. They found a steal on an old 5er and turned it into the 'guest house'. I stayed in it a couple years back. It is in shockingly good shape for what they paid. Less than $10k if I recall. Needed a bit of flooring replaced in the back, but otherwise solid. Being an old girl scout camp there is an outhouse just behind the spot where they parked it, so the black and grey tanks get drained into there when they dump them. Worked out very well.

I'm guessing you mean charge a friend 50 bucks to stay in my RV in my yard? I might be an azznozzle but I am not that sort of azznozzle.
Gotta get back those capital losses anyway you can.🤣

when I buy a RV I consider it a total capital loss when I buy it,
therefore I am never disappointed with my return on investment
as the main return on investment would be in memories.. :)

We bought this trailer used in December 2020 before the SHTF with prices. We never worry about selling price either but the inflated prices really haven't come down much so when we sell someday it won't be as terrible as it used to be. And my stuff is always 100% ready to go not used up and bandaid repaired.

I actually was not upside down on one trailer I owned.. not like I made money on it but that it caught on fire right in the post covid land boom of trailers so I got about 7k more than I owed... didn't even have to use the Gap insurance..

other ones I have had had been purchased so cheaply, even though I sold them for less that I bought them for we aren't talking about huge sums. but I don't ever make the mistake of using the term investment when it comes to any sort of vehicle but the current Bighorn that I apid45k for... I dont expect much whenever it is time to shi9can the sucker.. :)

We sold our Airstream in 2021 for more than we paid for it new. Do you mean RVs depreciate in value?

generally, but Airstreams are a little more like Harley Davidsons... aka they have a cult following, even an old used Airstream commands some pretty good money..

Yeah dealerships are not giving a lot for trade ins. Commanding high prices somewhat but only going one way. If we get a new unit, we will more than likely sell ours privately.

depends on how much your RV would retail for whether you'll have much luck selling a RV.. not saying it can't be done
but like anything on wheels, if it isn't low enough in price for the tire kickers you will attract its hard to find a cash buyer for big ticket items like cars, trucks, boats and RV's..

my current rig was sold to me by a private party, but they had to use a broker to do it... as an example, I am basically a cash buyer using a draft from a credit union, but the seller not only had an out of state title but he still had a lien on it due to it not being paid off... so he had to pay a broker to do the deal or he probably never would have been able to unload the RV without paying it off first.

Wayne bought high and sold higher! 👍🏻
there is always one in every crowd. but don't hold your breath if you think that will happen to you. LOL..
like I said, my Grand Design went up in smoke in 2021.. and I got 7 k more than I owed.. but it isn't like I made a profit.

I drove beaters for years... 30+ years without a car payment.. a couple of them I sold for what I paid for them after driving them for some years.. but it isn't like there is a profit, not when you throw in licensing, insurance, repairs etc.. just like home ownership but worse. :)

Well actually in 2016 we (thought) we wanted to downsize so sold the 97 Coachmen small 5th wheel and bought one of those hard side A-frame pop-ups and quickly realized they look a lot bigger than they are inside. A woman had bought it and before she ever used it her elderly mother got sick and it sat for 2 years and she decided to sell it. When we looked at it I noticed it had a bit of a leak at one of those bubble windows they have on the top surface and she took money off the already low asking price. We bought it found out quickly it was just too small and sold it for $2k more than we paid for it so sometimes you just get lucky.

We sold it during the rush to RVs with covid, the timing was perfect. It is the only time I will ever be able to sell an RV for more than it cost new.

Thanks for all the contributions you have made in this thread.

I was struggling on why use a RV over a hotel, when RV nightly rates are $50 USD +/-. This thread educated me on the benefits of RV over a hotel. Helps me better justify the RV expense in my mind.

Thanks again--- grateful.
