We stopped in Arco overnight and I saw the sign while driving past. I had no idea the historic significance of this little town a ways down the road from Idaho National Laboratory. On July 17, 1955, Arco became the first town to ever be powered by nuclear energy. The experimental reactor was the BORAX III for what it's worth.
Also a conning tower from a 60s area nuclear submarine. Certainly as strange sight in the desert.
